Some of the photo links seem to be having trouble, but if you type in http://photos.dietan.net/ you should be able to get to the whole gallery.
SouthEast Expeditions
If you're wondering how you can get out on the water and have as much fun as we are (or more) come see us on the Eastern Shore of Virginia any time.
www.southeastexpeditions.com has trip descriptions and all the information you need.
Point 65 North
The Kayaks that we have been using for all of the incredible adventures on this trip have been provided by Point 65 North. Please check out www.paddlepoint.net to find out more about these great boats, or call SouthEast Expeditions at (757)-331-2680 to paddle one yourself.
Loco Kiwis
Josh and John have headed across the Sea of Cortez and are on their way to Rio. To keep up with their adventure (and see if Josh gets his Baja info before me) check out www.locokiwi.com And if you happen to see them on the road, please buy them a beer and listen to a couple of stories. It's the best decision you'll make all day. Cheers boys, travel safe!
John Wayne Cancer Foundation
When we say "DIE TAN" we aren't talking George Hamilton tan. We're talking Old Man and the Sea tan. The expression "Die Tan" means "Don't get stuck in the office." You never know when your time here is going to end, so make sure that you get outside and live life to its fullest. Tan is a state of mind, not a state of fashion. So check out www.jwcf.org and protect yourself so that you can die tan later rather than sooner.
Shakey Earl & The Earthquakers
The soundtrack for our days on the water always includes at least one cut from the new Shakey Earl album Tellin' Your Tale. Go to www.shakeyearlband.com to get the next album that your friends will steal out of your car.

Today I have finally been able to
upload photos to the site. I'm sitting in the lobby of the Teakwood
Inn in Los Cruces, New Mexico. It's sunny but cold outside, and I'm
taking advantage of the free breakfast buffet that's 15 feet away
from the first DSL outlet I've found in 3000 miles. I've got a lot
to tell you about, but I've been working the pictures for the better
part of 2 hours, and I'm just about half way through them now.
Besides, the folks at Kodak assure me that a picture is still worth
1000 words, so I'm pretty sure I've got 2 or 3 novels worth of
pictures making their way to http:\\photos.dietan.net
. I've not taken the time to sort through all of the pics and sort
out the good, bad and ugly, so I apologize for the repeats and odd
balls. However, I think that they'll give you a good idea of what
we've been up to for the last couple of weeks.
The folks at the Weather Channel have
been having a great time this week I'm sure. Every time I see a
television they're talking about the latest “Winter Blast” that's
working it's way through our little part of the world. Ever since I
left Bluffton I've been skirting the edge of some storm or another.
Today is no different. It's 30-some degrees outside, but at least
the freezing rain ends a couple dozen miles East of us. The forecast
around here calls for snow, sleet, and locusts over the course of the
next few days, so we've decided to scrap our plans for the next week
or so and start from scratch. Instead of heading North as planned,
we're retreating Southward to look for cool water and warm weather in
Southern Arizona. There are some promising blue spots on the map
and several thin gray lines that wind across the desert, so we should
have some great scenery and I'm hoping that the caliber of characters
that I meet continues on to entertain and amaze me. The crew at the
High Desert Brewing Company last night definitely raised the bar yet
again, and I can't wait to tell you all about Fred and Dennis at the
Rio Grande take out. In the mean time, I'll continue to convert my
notes into actual trip descriptions and hope that you'll continue to
check back in with me as I get the details posted.
I hope that you enjoy the pictures, and
that it takes you far less time to browse them than it's taking me to
upload them. As a reward for your patience, I can finally offer you
a gift worth giving. The official DIETAN.net stickers should arrive
within hours at my unsuspecting mother's house in Bluffton, SC. If
you send me an e-mail with your address and a kind and entertaining
request for a free sticker, I'll send you one from San Diego at the
end of the week. Come on... you know you want one. Send me your
info at gonesailin@yahoo.com
and start checking the mail next week.
O.K. now it's 1:00 in the afternoon and
I'm still uploading photos. So I'm going to hold off on the pics
from the Little St Joe overnight trip, the Alabama padding trip, and
the Rio Grande. I'll get them up ASAP, but for now I'm going to get
in the Jeep and make some miles toward Arizona. 'till next time...

Glad that you're on the road again. I know that isn't the old red jeep that you're driving. What happend to the new sweet ride. Anyhow, I hope that you're taking some of the blue highways on this trip...especially if you're only going 30 mph.
I'll keep up with you're adventures...seeing as my biggest one now is chasing my kid around the house.

Yo Dave, you vivacious son of a pistol! Keep on truckin man. Can't wait to see the pix and hear the tales of the great white explorer. I'd love a sticker to stick on my geetar case if possible. Also, Bo told me Banjo Bo recently sent him a copy of his studio album. Didn't know if you've heard. We're enjoying great weather here, today it is 73 and windy, perfect conditions! Everything is the same here and you're not missing a thing. Kate Watson and Thornton are pregnant, in case you didn't know. That's the newest news. Take care, keep warm and take care of your shoes and socks and change them when you need to, otherwise discard them. Ace

Thanks for the e-mail. I was wondering if there was any way to reach
you on your trip. When Bo told me about it I really couldn't believe
the Jeep was still hanging in there. I just got back to Venice, so call
me when you reach California. It'd be a shame to miss you on both
coasts. Happy trails...

'Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails (or old red jeep). Explore. Dream. Discover'....just a little fridge magnet wisdom. As always Dave, great job! Living vicariously through you these days. Happy trails.
